What Colors Make Small Rooms In Apartment Look Larger?

Posted on December 8, 2024

What colors make a small room in an apartment bigger? It’s a fun question that I get asked a lot, especially by people who have never been apartment living. I have found that answering this question can lead to a better understanding of how to use color within the limits of the space and in what ways to use it. I’ve touched on this in a previous article, “What Colors Make a Small Room in Apartment Really Big?”

In the first place, let’s define the term “sub-space.” This is the area between what is considered the open space of the room like the kitchen and the stairs and what is considered the closed space of the bedroom or the bathroom like the toilet and the tub. Sometimes these are close enough to be in the same space, other times they are worlds apart. Sub-spaces can sometimes feel very dark because of shadows created by ceilings, so you want to make sure there are plenty of windows to shine light into them. They should be bright enough to make your rooms feel comfortable, warm and welcoming.

The problem with many colors in apartment decor is that they seem to make the spaces seem cozier, somehow. You might think that a robin’s egg blue would make a room feel more cozy, but that’s not really the case. Because robin’s egg blue has a purplish tint, it creates a feeling of tightness, which can be uncomfortable. If you want something a bit more relaxed, go with lavender, a color that doesn’t have the same purplish tint.

Some colors that make rooms feel bigger are orange and red. These colors will give a sense of size and action. One of the most popular colors for this is Terra cotta, since it can give off a cheery, festive feeling. You don’t want to paint your walls with this one though, because if you do, you’ll likely have a very loud, bothersome guest.

What colors make small rooms in apartment bigger? Choosing the right colors to decorate with is important, so that your rooms are inviting and welcoming. There are plenty of options for colors, and you can choose from soft pastel colors or bold primary colors. With the right combination of colors, you can make small rooms in apartment look bigger than they are.

It’s important to remember that you shouldn’t paint every wall in your room, even if you want to make small rooms in apartment bigger. Painting one wall will make the room seem more open, while painting every wall won’t make the space feel as large. It’s better to mix and match the colors in an area than to paint each wall in a different color. This also helps to create a balanced effect, since the tones of many colors work together to create a cozy, comfortable space.
